"Picture yourself vividly as winning, and that will contribute immeasurably to success. Great living starts with a picture, held in your imagination, of what you would like to do or be."Are you ready for more great living?
-- Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick
I paint portraits that intentionally work with the subject's positive self-image. Successful achievers in all areas of life tout visualization as a powerful tool. It is particularly valued by super salesmen and athletes whose training techniques can be measured directly in concrete outcomes. Because of this power of visualization, a portrait has enormous impact on the person portrayed. Even our reactions to snapshots demonstrate how powerfully pictures of ourselves reflect facets of our self-image.
That is why I call my paintings Portraits that Liberate the Spirit. You can see from my samples that I do not offer the dark, cold, pedigreed images we often associate with the word "portrait." Nor am I creating art you can't appreciate without first memorizing the theory behind it. And, I do not impose my "artistic license" on my client's likeness, but include their input and approval in my creative process.
A decision to have a portrait painted is undoubtedly motivated by a desire
for a work of art that captures a moment in an individual lifetime and retains
enduring value for many lifetimes. I created my unique Portrait Menu so that, when I paint a portrait,
it can be all this and more. My Portrait Menu is designed to help
my clients think well about themselves, and to enhance communication between
us. It is the first step in the creation of a portrait, and helps to ensure
that the end result is a unique, personal power picture full of my client's
life, color and meaning.
